Can I Freeze Pancake Batter?
Yes, you can freeze pancake batter.
It is physically possible, and not harmful food safety wise.
Should I Freeze Pancake Batter?
The real question is should you freeze pancake batter, and the answer is no, if you can avoid it.
It’s not because it is dangerous, but because the quality of your pancake after freezing the batter will be less than if you cooked them fresh.
Why?
Because pancake batter typically uses baking powder, and the effectiveness of the baking powder will be about half after it’s frozen and then thawed due to part of the reaction already having taken place.
Your pancakes might be dense and rubbery as opposed to fluffy.
However, it doesn’t mean they’ll be inedible or that you can’t freeze pancake batter, so let’s find out how to do it if that’s your best option.
How to Freeze Pancake Mixture
Don’t freeze pancake batter all in one container. It’ll be a nightmare to thaw!
Instead, freeze pancake batter in more individual or smaller portions by putting some batter in a freezer safe Ziploc bag or tupperware and freeze multiple smaller portions.
This means you’ll easily be able to thaw enough batter for just a couple of pancakes at a time instead of having to thaw the entire pancake batter at once.
How to Thaw Pancake Batter
If you can, take out the pancake batter the night before you need it and let it thaw in the fridge overnight.
If you want to make them right away, simply put the frozen pancake batter directly in the frying pan and it’ll thaw quickly and cook.
