Here’s the thing with protein shakes – they can really taste… not that great.

They are often bland, watery, and require you to just suck it up and drink them.

But, let’s be honest, who enjoys that kind of experience?! That’s where protein shake smoothies and high-protein smoothies come in handy.

And my hope is that this chocolate raspberry protein shake will help convince you to try more protein shake smoothies instead of suffering through bland normal protein shakes!

Why this chocolate raspberry protein shake is awesome!

It’s a raspberry yogurt smoothie with chocolate – what’s not to like?!

Raspberry is my number 1 favorite fruit. It’s just simply amazing.

And raspberry goes so well in a smoothie when mixed with yogurt.

And you know what else goes really well with raspberries?

CHOCOLATE!

The other thing is that you can use a chocolate protein shake that you like most.

I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate, but if you have one you prefer, go for it. I personally think the deeper the chocolate flavor, the better.

It’s a raspberry protein smoothie

If you are looking to get in a bunch of protein in one quick hit, a protein shake is the way to do it.

This raspberry protein smoothie is no exception. With 27.2g of protein, you will be getting in a huge amount of protein in one simple drink.

This protein smoothie is also great if you are on a low-carb diet.

I probably would probably choose a lower-net carb smoothie, such as my spinach and raspberry chocolate protein shake if you are on a Keto diet, but this smoothie will work well if you are on a low-carb diet as opposed to strict Keto.

As above, it will have that great raspberry and chocolate flavor, so what’s not to like?

It’s a protein shake with chia seeds – Why adding chia seeds to protein shake is a great idea

If you’ve never added Chia seeds to a protein shake or smoothie, you are missing out!

They do not affect the flavor or texture at all (well, unless you add loads!), but they really help with healthy nutrients.

This berry protein shake is versatile – Tips and swaps!

Finally, this berry protein shake is versatile in regards to swapping items out.

If you don’t have raspberries on hand, you could use another berry like blackberries and turn it in to a different kind of berry protein shake.

Likewise, if you don’t have plain yogurt but another variety, like coconut yogurt, this will work equally as well.

In fact, I really like coconut yogurt in my smoothies!

Lastly, you don’t have to use a particular protein powder.

I would absolutely advise using one with a deep chocolate flavor, such as this one, but if you have another, try it out and see how you like it!

But do use chocolate flavor protein powder – after all, this is a chocolate raspberry protein shake!

Ingredients you will need

Raspberries – You can use fresh or frozen raspberries for this recipe. If you use frozen raspberries, blend them first. If you use fresh, don’t try and blend them first, because it likely won’t work!

Yogurt – Be sure to use a yogurt that works for your diet, as not all yogurts are created equal! You have to watch out for added sugars, added flavors, dairy vs non-dairy, etc.

Chocolate protein powder – This is crucial – you MUST get a high-quality chocolate protein powder, otherwise this will NOT be the best-tasting chocolate raspberry protein shake! Many chocolate protein powders have a bad flavor. They can be bland and lack the chocolate punch you need. Many others are also not great as protein powders. You need one that both tastes great, and is a good protein powder. I recommend Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder Double Rich Chocolate. It’s very highly recommended by gym-goers, and tastes really good. This is what I use in my chocolate protein smoothie recipes.

Chia seeds – Make sure you buy organic chia seeds, and get them in bulk, because you may end up adding these to all your smoothies!

Notes

  • If using frozen raspberries, blend them first, otherwise they likely won't mix in to the final smoothie as well.
  • The flavour of your chocolate protein powder will really affect the final flavour of the chocolate raspberry protein shake. So make sure you have one with a good taste! I use Optimum Nutrition's double chocolate protein powder.
  • You can use full-fat yogurt, but it will obviously push up the final fat content.
